A Forbes columnist recently shocked the world with a surprising headline.
That headline reads: “The Console War Is Over: The PC Already Won”
In the ensuing article, that Forbes columnist claims that the PC gaming system industry is alive and growing despite a “declining overall PC market.”
In other words, average people are less likely to use PCs while gamers are becoming more likely to use PCs.
If you, like me, are a proud member of the “PC gaming master race” community, then you know that PCs provide the best gaming experience and it’s not even close. Finally, after years of hearing about gaming was a race between Xbox and PlayStation, the PC seems to be getting the recognition it deserves.

The Forbes article introduces a lot of interesting stats about the PC gaming market, including:
-The ultra high-end PC gaming market is growing particularly strong: Nvidia just launched a $2,999 GeForce GTX Titan Z, while AMD launched its $1,500 Radeon R9 295X2
-By the end of 2014, PC gaming will be a $21.5 billion industry. By the end of 2017, that number is expected to grow to $23 billion.
-One industry analyst commented with the following quote, which I think sums up the opinion of a large number of PC users:
“Committed PC gamers are generally not interested in pure content consumption platforms. They are power users and pay thousands for the ability to play games at very high settings and then do business, video/photo editing, content creation and other tasks with maximum horsepower at their disposal in a desktop ergonomic environment.”
-Forbes also took an accurate shot at consoles, saying the Xbox One and PS4 are “roughly equivalent to an entry-level PC gaming system in terms of total horsepower.”

-The writer mentioned that although the entry cost for PCs is relatively high, the total cost of consoles versus PCs isn’t as high as many people think due to the comparatively low price of games on PC
-While the article is largely in favor of PC gaming, it does mention some PC-specific problems, including “configuration woes and shoddy ports of console titles”.
Both of those issues affect PC gamers, but they’re becoming less and less problematic. On one hand, developers are investing more in PC ports because they know there’s a strong userbase available. On the other hand, software like GeForce Experience and AMD Gaming Evolved is making configuration problems a thing of the past while also helping gamers keep drivers updated with minimal labor.

The future has never looked brighter for PC gamers.
