If you are like most people, then your computer is very important to you. After all, many people do a lot of their work on their computers. Whether you use your computer for school or work, you need it to be running in optimum condition every day.
If you’re facing a strict deadline, then the last thing you want is for your computer to break down. A computer breakdown is an easy way to ruin your day, and before you know it, you’re falling behind on homework or real work. Obviously, the best way to prevent this from happening to you is to proactively defend your computer in the first place. But first, you need to know which areas of your computer to target. Which parts of it need to be fixed?
Listen to the sounds your computer is making
One of the best ways to tell if your computer needs to be fixed is to listen to it. If your computer has been making a lot of abnormal sounds lately, it may be the result of hard drive problems. This is especially true if you hear a clicking sound every time you turn on your computer. A clicking sound usually means that your hard drive is failing, and over time, this can lead to complete hard drive failure and the inability to boot your system.
So how do you prevent this problem from happening? Well, if you notice your computer’s hard drive is clicking, then you should do two things. First, backup all of the data on your computer to an external hard drive. And second, purchase a new internal hard drive. Keep in mind that if your laptop has been making these sounds, then replacing the hard drive may be difficult, and you may have to seek additional technical support.
Is your computer running hot?
You should also pay attention to the temperature of your PC. If your computer has been getting hotter than usual lately, then you need to do everything in your power to keep it cool. Nothing will destroy a computer faster than overheating problems, and you can literally melt some components off of your motherboard if you’re not careful.
Both desktops and laptops suffer from overheating problems. Fortunately, there are a number of things you can do to fix it. First, try to keep the room at a normal temperature, or even slightly cooler than normal. If the outside air that your computer is sucking into your PC is too hot, then it won’t cool down your components.
Another easy way to prevent overheating is to avoid running PC-intensive applications. Or, if you don’t want to avoid playing PC games, then be sure that you’re only running one or two programs at any one time. If your PC game performance is being negatively affected by overheating, then you may need to replace your graphics card. Since graphics cards can cost anywhere from $50 to $1000, it’s best to prevent your components from overheating in the first place.
One of the easiest ways to prevent overheating is to perform a scan with PC optimization software like PC Cleaner Pro 2012. An optimized computer runs at a faster, cooler pace than a computer with no optimization tools installed. The less stress that your hardware components are under, the easier it will be to cool down your computer.
Check your monitor
Your computer screen can tell you a lot about what’s going on inside the computer. If your computer monitor flickers when you first start up the computer or if it flickers during use, it might be the sign of a motherboard or power supply problem. These problems are very serious, and could affect the most central components of your computer.
Of course, monitor flickering could just be the signs of a faulty monitor. If possible, plug your computer or laptop into another screen to see if the problem persists. If it does, then you should take your computer to be repaired for further diagnosis and treatment.
