How long does it take to complete a PC repair?

By now, you have probably discovered how finicky computers can be. On some days, your PC runs wonderfully. But the next day, it could crash and freeze every five minutes. If your computer’s behavior has been extremely volatile lately, it might be the early warning signs of a virus or other serious computer error. In either case, you’re going to need to repair this problem as soon as possible.

Even in today’s technologically advanced society, many people know very little about PC repair. If you have recently sent your PC in to get repaired, or if it’s just started to experience problems, then you may want to know how long it takes to complete a PC repair. Today, we’re going to answer that question for you.

The amount of time it takes to complete a PC repair varies widely. Depending on what’s wrong with your computer, a PC repair can take anywhere from 30 seconds to one week. If the tech support company you brought it do needs to send your computer away for repairs, then it may take even longer than that.

For example, if the only thing that’s wrong with your computer is your hard drive, then a repair could be completed within a day. It doesn’t take long to replace a malfunctioning piece of hardware like a hard drive, and as long as the PC repair service has the parts available, repairs can be completed in no time at all. You should also remember that services like data recovery can add a significant amount of time to a computer’s repair costs, so if your hard drive had important pictures, files, or documents on it before it crashed, then you may be without your PC for up to a week or two.

Meanwhile, if a critical component like your motherboard needs to be replaced, it could take as long as a week – or more. Long repairs are also common for laptops, where replacement screens and keyboards can be difficult to find and even more difficult to replace.

If your computer is customized and has a special graphics card (say, if you’re into PC gaming), then it could take longer than a week for the repairs to be completed. This is simply because the repair shop will have to special order your graphics card or other customized component before they can even begin to work on your computer.

Replacement computers

If you’re going to be without your computer for a long period of time, then you might want to consider buying an inexpensive netbook. For under $300, some of today’s netbooks can perform all of the tasks of a regular desktop PC – albeit on a much smaller screen. If you can handle dealing with a 10 inch screen for a week or two, then this may be your best interim option.

If you want to be sure that you’re getting the best deal on a replacement PC, you can always find out how much money you’ll be losing by not having your computer and then factor in the purchase price of a netbook. As long as your profits outweigh your costs, it would be a good idea to purchase a temporary replacement.

The bottom line

Since you now know that the amount of time it will take to repair your pc could range from a day to a few weeks, you should be able to plan accordingly. When you drop your computer off at the repair shop, the employee will usually give you an estimate as to how long the repair will take. Sometimes, repair shops even offer home delivery in order to ensure that your computer is returned to you in the shortest possible amount of time.
