Today, it is hard to do anything on a computer if you do not have an internet connection. After all, you won’t be able to communicate with any colleagues and many applications using the internet will be rendered useless. Because of this, it is very important to know how to fix a PC that won’t connect to the internet.
The internet has become such an integral part of the computer that being without it for even a day can inhibit a person’s ability to make proper decisions. So, how should you go about getting your internet back?
The first thing you should to do fix your internet connection is call your internet service provider. Before you start fiddling with your computer’s settings, it is important to make sure that it is your fault that the internet isn’t working. The internet might not be working because of a power outage or a frayed line. In this case, the only plan of action is to wait patiently until your ISP repairs the problem.
After you have verified that your internet service provider isn’t the problem, you should restart your router. Restarting your router may seem like a useless thing to do, but it fixes 90% or more of all internet connection problems (much like restarting your PC fixes all sorts of common computer problems). If rebooting your router does not work, you can also try disconnecting your computer from the network. Once you have disconnected, try connecting again.
Sometimes, your computer accidentally changes the DNS address or the Subnet ID. If your computer changes either of these two fields, your internet will not work. Your internet service provider should have given you certain values for your DNS address and Subnet ID. Verify that the amounts your computer is displaying are the correct ones.
Once you have gone through all these steps, your computer should be connected to the internet. If your computer still isn’t connected to the internet, you should contact your ISP for additional help or take your pc to a computer shop to make sure that your Ethernet port and Wi-Fi connection are in working order.
