What is Cbs0z ransomware? And how does it carry out its attack?

Cbs0z ransomware is a file-encrypting virus designed to lock important data in a computer. This new ransomware threat uses a “.cbs0z” extension in marking the files it encrypts. According to security experts, it is a new variant of Snatch ransomware based on its code snippets which have similarities with Snatch ransomware.

Cbs0z Ransomware

The instant it manages to infiltrate a computer, it will download and create more malicious files that help it in executing its attack. These files are placed in system folders and keep Cbs0z ransomware from being detected by antivirus programs installed on the computer. Moreover, it also modifies the Windows Registry so it can achieve persistence that will make its removal even harder. Once it’s done altering important system settings, Cekisan ransomware will scan the system for its targeted files like .doc, .docx, .jpg, .lnk, .pdf, .xls, and .xlsx. These files are encrypted using a sophisticated encryption algorithm. After encryption, it adds the .cekisan suffix to every encrypted file and opens the RESTORE_CBS0Z_DATA.txt ransom note that states:

“1. Decoding cost
The cost of decryption is 6000$. (Bitcoin is a form of digital
currency)
in 72 hours the price will be 10,000 dollars.
Smart pays quickly. Immediately after payment – all your files will be restored.

  1. Attention!

Do not rename encrypted files.
Do not try to decrypt your data using third party software, it may
cause permanent data loss.
Decryption of your files with the help of third parties may cause
increased price (they add their fee to our) or you can become a
victim
of a scam.
IMPORTANT! – if you, your programmers or your friends will help you
decrypt your files – this can lead to data loss. even when you pay
we will not be able to help you. Do not joke with files.
