If you receive the “Error 0x00000000: The operation completed successfully” on a pop-up box while trying to copy a file, it could mean that you might not be able to finish copying that file. The pop-up box of the error message offers you options such as to “Try again” or to “Cancel”. If neither of the given options worked for you, then read on as this post will show you additional options to help you fix the problem. Follow these options and check if they can fix your problem and let you modify or copy files according to your requirements.
Here’s the complete context of the error:
“An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x00000000: The operation completed successfully.”
If you’ve already tried restarting your PC to solve the issue but it’s still futile, and you still got the ERROR_SUCCESS Windows error code, follow the given options below.
Option #1 – Try using the System File Checker tool
The System File Checker tool is a built-in command-line tool for Windows which is known to automatically scan for any corrupted files and is a reliable tool that can help you fix the issue. To use it, follow these steps:

  • Tap Win + R to launch Run.
  • Type in cmd in the field and tap Enter.
  • After opening Command Prompt, type in sfc /scannow


The command will start a system scan which will take a few while before it finishes. Once it’s done, you could get the following results:

  1. Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
  2. Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
  3. Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
  • Restart your PC after the scan is completed.

Option #2 – Boot your PC into Safe Mode.
Try to boot your PC into Safe Mode and then try to copy the file again and see if you can now complete the task.
Option #3 – Take full control
Try checking if your user account has full control over the drive as well as the files or not. To do so, follow these steps:

  • Open This PC.
  • Right click on the system drive and then select Properties.
  • Switch to the Security tab and then click on the Edit button.
  • After that, select the user account that is currently used for the list given and then check if the Full Control is ticked or not under the Allow tab.

  • If it isn’t ticked, make a check mark over there and see whether you can now copy and paste the file or not.

Option #4 – Try changing the account type

You can change your account type – for instance, if you have a Standard user account, you can change that into an Administrator one. This error can occur due to some ownership issues, so by changing the account type that should fix the issue. To change the account type, follow the steps below.

  • Tap the Win + I keys to open the Windows Settings panel.
  • Afterwards, go to Accounts > Family & other people than from the list under the Other people tag, select the second account.
  • Next, click on the “Change account type” button.
  • After that, select “Administrator” from the drop-down menu.

Option #5 – Try scanning your Pc for any malware or virus

  1. Turn on your computer. If it’s already on, you have to reboot
  2. After that, the BIOS screen will be displayed, but if Windows pops up instead, reboot your computer and try again. Once you’re on the BIOS screen, repeat pressing F8, by doing so the Advanced Option shows up.

  1. To navigate the Advanced Option use the arrow keys and select Safe Mode with Networking then hit
  2. Windows will now load the SafeMode with Networking.
  3. Press and hold both R key and Windows key.

  1. If done correctly, the Windows Run Box will show up.
  2. Type in explorer http://www.fixmypcfree.com/install/pccleanerpro

A single space must be in between explorer and http. Click OK.

  1. A dialog box will be displayed by Internet Explorer. Click Run to begin downloading PC Cleaner Pro. The installation will start automatically once a download is done.

  1. Click OK to launch PC Cleaner Pro.
  2. Run the program and click the Click to Start Scan button to perform a full system scan.
