What is FirePlayer?

FirePlayer is classified as an adware  which is basically a deceptive application that supposedly allows users to play various media in the HD format. Initially upon inspection, FirePlayer may appear legitimate and useful, but truth is,  this app is categorized as a potentially unwanted program or PUP. Here are the three main reasons for these negative associations: 1) stealth installation without consent and authorization; 2) display of intrusive and pesky online advertisements, and; 3) tracking of users’ Internet browsing activity, history and details.

After its infiltration, the FirePlayer employs a so-called “virtual layer” to generate pop-up, coupon, banner, and other similar and materials associated to advertisements. This  virtual layer is basically a tool  developed to enable placement of third party graphical content on any website. Therefore, the displayed ads often conceal underlying malicious and viral content. In addition to that, they also often redirect users to malicious websites and even trick them to inadvertently or accidentally click on those unwanted sites can result in high-risk adware or malware infections. Another downside about this adware infection is information tracking. Note that FirePlayer continually records various user-system information that might be personally identifiable such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, etc. These information is then shared with  or sold to third parties or the potentially, cyber criminals who generate revenue by misusing personal information. Thus, the presence of an information-tracking app such as FirePlayer  adware can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft by cyber criminals. We strongly advise you to  get rid of FirePlayer adware immediately or as soon as you are able.
Take note that the FirePlayer Adware has very similar characteristics to ShareWithUs, WiseFolderLock, Navigate Pro, Tools Plus, and many other adware. Also remember that all of these apps offer different functionality though, but basically have identical behavior. All carry the same purpose of adware-type applications which is to generate earnings for the developers. Simply, they deliver intrusive online advertisements and continually and silently record various user-system information. Their claims to provide ‘useful functionality’ are only  attempts to give the impression of legitimacy. Actually, apps like this FirePlayer are useless for regular users.

How did FirePlayer adware get through and installed on computer?

This adware has owns an official download website,  but, developers also proliferate it by applying  a deceptive marketing method that is called “bundling”. This means, users often install FirePlayer inadvertently, without their consent or their authorization. Mainly, this bundling is a stealth installation of third party applications along with regular software/apps. Developers know very well psychologically that users often rush the download/installation processes and skip few essential steps. Therefore, they should know that bundled applications are concealed within the “Custom/Advanced” settings of these procedures. That’s why reading is an essential habit to practice when you install anything into your computer. By skipping these sections, users expose their systems to risk of various infections and most obviously will compromise their privacy.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted programs or PUP?

Primarily, the PUPs are distributed using the “bundling” method just like most adware do. So, bear in mind to never ever rush the download or installation processes. Don’t forget to select the “Custom/Advanced” settings, closely analyze each step, and decline offers to download/install additional applications. Take note that most bundled applications are commonly malicious and should never be installed.
